PT-109 - Elco 80' Motor Torpedo Boat - Black Box Edition (2019)
SGD 4,250.00# BKM2152-2 This is the 2019 Edition where the box art on the front has a dark background. The PT-109 was a Motor Torpedo boat last commanded by Lieutenant, Junior Grade John F. Kennedy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. PT-109 belonged to the PT-103 class, hundreds of which were completed between 1942 and 1945. It was transported from the Norfolk Navy Yard to the South Pacific in August 1942, and arrived at the Soloman Islands in late 1942. PT-109 participated in combat operations around Guadalcanal between December 1942 and February 1943, when the Japanese withdrew from the island. PT-109 participated in many night time patrols against the "Tokyo Express," which was the name given to the naval vessels that brought supplies to the Japanese troops on Guadalcanal. On one such patrol, around 2am on August 2, 1943, PT-109 was motionless in the water, with idling engines to avoid detection of her wake by Japanese aircraft. Out of the nearly pitch black darkness suddenly appeared the looming bow of the Japanese destroyer Amagiri. Unable to gain enough speed to avoid collision, PT-109 was struck midship, sawing the smaller PT-boat in two and rupturing the fuel tanks containing hundreds of gallons of highly-flammable 100 octane aviation gasoline. The collision resulted in a spectacular explosion and fireball prompting nearby witnesses to believe the entire crew of PT-109 was lost. All nearby American forces withdrew from the area without searching for survivors. Miraculously, eleven of the thirteen crewmen survived the explosion, although several were severely wounded. Trapped deep inside enemy territory, PT-109's skipper, LTJG John F. Kennedy, faced the nearly impossible task of saving his crew from both the enemy and the elements. For several days, the survivors hid from the Japanese by day on nearby deserted island, which Kennedy foraged for supplies and searched for friendly forces by night. After six days Kennedy was able to send word of PT-109's survivors to his home base, via message carved into a coconut husk. This was carried by a pair of Solomon Island native scouts, who paddled a dugout canoe some forty miles to the American base. This would become one of the most famous survival tales of World War II and helped propel John F Kennedy into the national spotlight Specifications: Displacement: 56 tons (full load) Length: 80 ft overall Propulsion: Three 12-cylinder Packard gasoline engines 1500 hp each; three shafts Speed: 41 knots (47 mph) Endurance: 12 hours (6 hours at top speed) Complement: 3 officers, 14 enlisted men Armament: 4 x 21-inch torpedo tubes, 20 mm cannon aft, 4 x M2 .50cal .5” (12.7 mm) machine guns (2x2), 37 mm anti-tank gun mounted forward Armor: gunboat deck house protected against rifle bullets and splinter The PT-109 Elco 80' Motor Torpedo Boat comes with the following features: Faithfully built following historic plans of the actual PT-109 in 1/35 scale Removable hatches and deck reveal fully detailed interior compartments Thirteen custom printed mini figures, including LTJG John F Kennedy Includes display stand with PT-109 data plate Numerous custom printed elements included throughout the model Never-before-released M2 aircraft machine guns hand-crafted by BrickArms’ Will Chapman 1/35 scale to match other Brickmania models Includes 4,125 genuine new-condition LEGO® bricks and BrickArms® elements Master Skill Level (8-10 years of experience with LEGO is recommended) All Brickmania model kits are made of new-condition, re-purposed LEGO bricks. T-55 Mod 1963 Main Battle Tank
SGD 480.00# BKM1051 In October 1973, Egypt and Syria launched a surprise assault on the Israeli border during the Jewish Yom Kippur holiday. Initiating a conflict that became known as the Yom Kippur War. Their objective was to reclaim territory lost during the 1967 Six Day War and eventually move on to eliminate the Jewish State. The bulk of the Syrian armored forces was made up of stockpiled Soviet tanks, including a plethora of T-55s. The T-55 was initially developed by the Soviets as a counter to the new American M60 MBT. While the chassis design mirrored that of its predecessors, the turret was completely redesigned. Also new was the incorporation of NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) defenses for the tank’s four-person crew. Still used by nearly 50 countries around the world, the T-55 takes its place as one of the most produced tanks of all time, with estimates surpassing 86,000 units. New York Central Mohawk - L-2a 4-8-2 Steam Locomotive
SGD 5,625.00# BKM6004 The "Mohawk" moniker is the NYC's name for the 4-8-2 wheel arrangement (four pilot wheels, eight coupled driving wheels, and two trailing wheels). Conventionally, this type is known as a Mountain. The NYC decided to name them after the Mohawk river, which ran along their water level route, where the Mohawks were intended to run. The L-2a came about when the NYC wanted a locomotive to haul trains faster than their H10 class 2-8-2's. This new engine needed to be not only faster but larger as well, and it was found the previous generation of Mohawk, the L-1, had room to grow. Primary goals included achieving more power through minimum fuel consumption and weight. Height and width was also taken into account. The NYC's locomotives were designed to tighter clearances than most other lines, which is reflected on the L-2a and most of their other classes. One prototype L-2a, #2700, was delivered in March, 1925 and featured a number of details that were not standard to NYC locomotives. The railroad learned from this prototype and went on to order 99 production locomotives, 2701-2799, from American Locomotive Company, or ALCO, which were delivered roughly in the first five months of 1926 and remained in service into the early 1950's. The L-2a class sports 69" driving wheels with a cylinder bore and stroke of 27"x30" and an 84' - 7" wheelbase including the tender. The L-2a's were also delivered with a booster trailing truck, which included cylinders powering that wheel for extra assistance when starting a train. The L-2'as were delivered with a 21 ton coal capacity in the tender. Notes from BMR Designer Glenn Holland: All of the details mentioned above I have accurately represented on my model. I modeled locomotive #2743 specifically, reflecting some unique piping arrangements from other engines, including booster engine detail and the classic Elesco feedwater heater sitting atop the front of the smokebox, a key feature of NYC freight locomotives, and this class in particular. Most of the L-2a's received an upgraded coal capacity tender, moving to 25 tons. I have modeled this as it better represents the class; less than ten locomotives did NOT receive this upgrade. The model uses 2 Power Functions L motors and 2 IR receivers, allowing each motor to operate at full capacity. Both motors are powered from a custom 7.4V battery which offers a performance increase over the standard Power Functions AAA and Rechargeable battery. The connecting rods and Baker valve gear is custom parts modeled by myself using original blueprints and perfected for operation by Brickmania. It is a more accurate representation of Baker valve gear motion than I have achieved previously. The boiler and cab can be easily removed for servicing the motors. The power train is built up from the S160 design and has proven to be just as capable and strong. I've run this engine around my floor continuously and I have yet to have a problem with it. The L-2a has been on my project list for many years, being one of my favorite NYC freight locomotives and I'm glad to be able to start working more closely with Brickmania on railroad kits and also glad that I could start things off with this awesome example of 1920's fast freight power. Easy Eight - M4A3E8 Sherman Tank
SGD 420.00# BKM2220 The name “Easy Eight” was the nickname for the final World War II production model of the famous Sherman tank. While never designed to battle heavy German armor, this model was more capable than the original Sherman tanks rolled out three years earlier. The Easy Eight contained key critical upgrades including a longer, high velocity 76mm gun and better armor. The nickname “Easy Eight” comes from the final two letters in its military designation, M4A3E8, which indicated an improved and heavier suspension system designed to deal with the extra weight of the new gun. This was effective at navigating the uneven terrain of the Ardennes Forest when in combat with intimidating German heavy tanks during the Battle of the Bulge. The Easy Eight was the only Sherman to remain in American service following World War II, deployed in Korea until the development of the M46 Patton. The Easy Eight was also the basis of the famous Israeli “Super Shermans” which saw action well into the 1970s. Specifications: Crew: 5 Engine: Ford GAA 8-cylinder gasoline Speed: 23 mph (37 km/h) Range: 109 mi (175 km) Armament: 76mm high-velocity gun, .50 caliber Browning M2, 2x .30-06 caliber machine guns Features of the Easy Eight - M4A3E8 Sherman kit include: The Brickmania team has updated our ever-popular Easy Eight kit with several new features. Significant upgrades include the addition of new custom weapons from BrickArms: new extra-long Easy Eight Gun Barrel, Easy Eight Muzzle Brake, and a Short .30 Caliber Machine Gun Barrel with Ball Joint. This model retains its smooth-running tracks, functional suspension, rotating turret, and four opening crew hatches. It also comes with the iconic BrickArms M2HB machine gun as standard equipment.
