LCVP - Landing Craft Vehicle + Personnel "Higgins Boat" (2017 Edition)
SGD 382.50# BKM2172 Remark: Number on box is misprinted as 2113. Contains the 2017 version of minifigures with torso stickers. Considered by historians as key to Allied victory, the LCVP “Higgins” Boat was a simple design capable of placing men and material where they were needed. Prior to the Higgins, landing troops via amphibious assault was dangerous, slow, and ineffective. Previous designs fared poorly in shallow water and required soldiers to jump over the side of their craft. Although it was poorly received by the Navy, Louisiana businessman and boat-builder Andrew Higgins designed a boat that could operate in just three feet of water while carrying 8,000 pounds of cargo, thirty-six men, or twelve men and a Jeep. The design was simple – a boxy shape with an open top and a large, wide ramp that allowing soldiers or Jeeps to deploy quickly. Much of the boat was mahogany, a light and durable sub-tropical wood that allowed the boat to return to the sea after deploying its cargo. The Higgins arrived at precisely the right time. In the Pacific theater, amphibious assaults would be key to capturing islands from Japanese forces. In Europe, these assaults would be required to liberate both Italy and France. When Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, they deployed from over 800 of these landing craft. There are several famous images with Army Rangers deploying on Omaha Beach from the Higgins boat. This scene was also depicted in the award-winning film Saving Private Ryan, granting modern audiences a realistic look at the struggle by Allied forces. Many of the Allied commanders used the Higgins extensively, resulting in over 20,000 to be produced during the war period 1941-1945. The US military continued to use the basic Higgins design in future generations of amphibious landing craft. Battle of the Bulge: Building instructions for World War II Models
SGD 150.00# BKB2174-SPIRAL (formerly BKM2174SPRL) The Battle of the Bulge, sometimes known as "Hitler's Last Desperate Gamble", was a massive German offensive beginning in December of 1944. The Allies did not believe such an offensive was possible in the thick forest of the Ardennes region. As a result, the Allies were caught completely off-guard and the German advance created a "bulge" in their lines. German defeat would result from poor logistics and Allied resolve. This defeat in the Ardennes would cripple German ability to wage war and seal the end of the Third Reich in May 1945. T-72 "Ural" Main Battle Tank
SGD 517.50# BKM846 Developed in 1971, the T-72 “Ural” was designed in the tradition of inexpensive and effective Russian tanks. Beginning with the T-34 medium tank of World War II, Soviet tank designers set out to compete with Western military hardware. The T-72 maintained close performance to Western main battle tanks while keeping the cost low. It came armed with a 125 mm smoothbore tank gun and an optical coincidence rangefinder. Later improvements came with laser rangefinder systems. The T-72 “Ural” had an automatic loading system, eliminating the need for a dedicated crewmember. One of the key features of the T-72 is the attached 125 mm 2A46 series main gun, which is significantly larger than the standard 105 mm gun found in western MBTs. The main gun is complemented by a “Siren” two-plane electrohydraulic stabilizer, which allows automatic stabilization with speeds from .05-6 degrees per second. Additional information about this Brickmania custom kit: The T-72 "Ural" Main Battle Tank has the following features Fully articulated Brickmania Track Links™ Ultra rare, hand-injected DShK “dushka” anti-aircraft heavy machine gun from BrickArms® Fully rotating turret with posable main gun Includes one Modern Russian Tank Commander minifig Opening hatches on turret and hull 1/35 scale to match other Brickmania models Includes 686 genuine new-condition LEGO®, Brickmania and BrickArms elements Intermediate Skill Level (4-6 years experience with LEGO is recommended) All Brickmania model kits are made of new-condition LEGO bricks. BM-13N Katyusha - Rocket Launcher
SGD 255.00# BKM2130 The Katyusha rocket launchers were a series of multiple rocket artillery built and used by the Soviets in WWII. This type of artillery was used to deliver explosives to a target area more quickly than conventional artillery, but suffered from lower accuracy and a longer reload time. While relatively fragile when compared to traditional artillery, they were inexpensive, easy to produce and usable on any chassis, usually ordinary trucks. This high mobility gave the Katyushas an additional advantage: the ability to strike and move before being located and hit with counter-fire. They were incredibly effective in saturation bombardment, and particularly feared by German soldiers. A battery of four BM-13 launchers could fire a salvo in 7–10 seconds that delivered over 4 tons of high explosives over a 4,300,000 sq ft impact zone, making its power roughly equivalent to that of 72 guns. With an efficient crew, the launchers could redeploy to a new location immediately after firing, denying the enemy the opportunity for retaliation fire. Katyusha batteries were often massed in very large numbers to create a shock effect on enemy forces. The weapon's disadvantage was the long time it took to reload a launcher, in contrast to conventional guns which could sustain a continuous low rate of fire. This kit is modelled after the BM-13, mounted on Studebaker trucks. The BM-13 utilized M-13 132mm rockets, and was often mounted on the ZIS-6 truck, an improvised vehicle mount or towed trailer or sled. The M-13s had a max range of 9,560 yards. The scream of the warheads being launched prompted the Germans to nickname the Katyushas “Stalins Organ”. All in all, the Katyusha’s were an incredibly effective “Shock and Awe” weapon. Additional information about this Brickmania custom Lego® kit: The BM-13N Katyusha - Rocket Launcher has the following features: 1 Russian mid-war minifigure with BrickArms PPsH Opening hood Printed tile with site Working steering Working stabilizers Crank raises missile rail bed 8 working flick-missile rockets All Brickmania model kits are made of new-condition LEGO bricks.
